Abstract:
Ban Phang iron ore deposit, located in Ngan Son district, Bac Kan province, had been investigated since 1960. The results indicated that iron ore here was quite diverse, including oxide and siderite ore types. The oxide ore type comprises of both the eluvial-deluvial and original ores. Different iron ore types with big change in iron content and components have big impact on exploration, exploitaion and especially ore processing. The results indicated that iron content in oxide ore changes from 40% to 57,07% and from 24,95% to 39,78% in sederite type. The aim of this paper is to show characteristics of geology, mineralogy and reserve/resource of iron ore in Ban Phang deposit; and also to propose a technological process for both oxide and siderite ores that are suitable for iron and steel industry. The study’s results provide important foundation for the exploitation and best use of the siderite resource to improve the economic value of the deposit.
