Abstract:
The results of the magnetotelluric and cross - sectional electrical surveying and 2D audio magnetotellurics modeling for profiles that transect the structures underneath the basin Cenozoic Quang Nam Basin within the middle and lower portions of Vu Gia - Thu Bon catchment have clearly delineated the location and width of the faults and fracture zones that cross cut both basement and Quaternary sediementarty layers in the study area. The measurement results as such have provided accurate baseline information for the predicting of the nature of tectonic faults, contributing to the confirmation of buried fault systems that are extrapolated by morphotectonic and other geological patameters. The results of this study also demonstrate the effectiveness of the application of combined audio magnetotelluaric and electrical measurements for the study ofshallow geological structures in the Quang Nam Basin and other areas with similar geological features.
