Abstract:
The coastlines are influenced by modern tectonics activities such as uplift, lower, faults, erosion, deposition and sand bar movement. Other causes are by human activities for building dam, raising aquaculture, and planting mangrove. The aim of this study is to use remote sensing data for monitoring coastline changes due to above discussed reasons. Multi-temporal Landsat data are used for this purpose over the period of 1973 to 2014 with five-year interval. Band rationing methods and threshold technique were applied for the coastline extraction. The change of coastlines is estimated from special profiles established perpendicular to coastlines. Positive values represent the erosion of shoreline and negative values corresponds the deposition of shoreline. From the experimental results, it was found that maximum shoreline change was about 600 m between 1973 and 2014 in the southern of Dai estuary, Thu Bon river delta
