Abstract:

There are many ways to calculate the volumes of excavation and backfill in engineering surveying, and digital terrain model plays an important role and it is one of methods which used commonly. In this method, terrain volume is the total of triangular prismatic blocks with upper terrain triangles are not paralleled to the bottom triangles. Many measures are used to calculate the volumes of these prismatic blocks. This paper shows the formula to calculate the prismatic volumes exactly and this is the base to standardize the volumes of excavation and backfill formula by using digital terrain model
