Abstract:

Results field investigation as well as on the basis of compilation of all available data, this work presents criteria for delineation of areas for groundwater exploitation as follows: (1) Criteria for the quality of groundwater, (2) Criteria for the discharge of groundwater, (3) Criteria for ensuring the safety for society and environment, (4) Criteria for the requirements for construction, the ability to operate of the groundwater exploitation. These criteia had been applied to define the groundwater exploitation areas for the Pleistocen aquifer of Hanoi as follows: the restricted exploitation areas account for about 326.72 km2, the limited exploitation areas are 2545.3 km2, and the permitted exploitation areas are of about 525km2. Such results have been accepted and applied by Hanoi city for management purposes.
