Abstract:

The detection of fracture zones from signatures in seismic data has created a great interest. Besides a number of successes that have been published there are several failures due to pitfalls caused by noise. In this study, the authors simulate prestack reflected signals from irregular boundaries and random noise using Kirchhoff-Helmholtz algorithm. The synthetic data are used as one of input for processing and analysis steps, the outcome of which shall be a criterion to discriminate the noise effects from the signatures of fracture zones on migrated seismic sections
