Abstract:

The coal thermal power plant is the mainly providing resource energy in Vietnam, but it releases into the environment millions of tones ash, annually. They are mainly disposed in the field near the factories and residential areas, and a little amount of them are reused in some fields. This can cause the environmental pollution. To reuse the ash and reduce the negative environmental effect, the research group has studied the compaction capability of fly ash from An Khanh thermal power plant with the aim of applying them into ground improvement methods, reducing environmental pollution. The result has indicated that bottom ash has particle size distribution, gravity, maximum dried unit weight that are similar to that of aggregate, or sandy gravel. Parameters such as compaction index K, CBR of bottom ash sampling showed that they have a good compaction potential, and could meet the strength requirement of embankment materials and materials for construction of base or subbase layers of roadways level B and C.
